Swearing-in ceremony for new council in Swift Current, Nov. 7, 2016

The swearing-in ceremony for the newly elected council members and mayor in the City of Swift Current took place in council chambers. Nov. 7. Provincial Court Judge Karl Bazin administered the declaration of elected officials, which is a requirement under the Cities Act. Denis Perrault was elected as Swift Current's new mayor in the Oct. 26 municipal election. Four incumbents stood for re-election and they were successful. They are George Bowditch, Pat Friesen, Ryan Plewis and Ron Toles. The two newly elected councillors are Bruce Deg and Chris Martens. The new council got to work immediately by approving a request from General Manager of Community Services Dean Robson to have an in camera meeting before the next regular council meeting on Nov. 21 to discuss a capital budget request for 2017.
