Fire Chief for a Day event as the Swift Current Fire Hall, Oct. 20, 2016

Written by

Five local students had a behind-the-scenes visit to the Swift Current Fire Department during the Fire Chief for a Day event, Oct. 20. The students, one each from Central, Fairview, O.M. Irwin and École Centennial schools, were the winners of the Fire Prevention Week contest. They are John Arat (All Saints School), Rayanne Fleischfresser (École Centennial School), Angelina Gaetz (Fairview School), Kasia Gatzke (O.M. Irwin School), and Masen Jones (Central School). The Swift Current Fire Department is working with local schools during October to highlight the importance of replacing smoke alarms. The motto of Fire Prevention Week is “Don't wait, check the date! Replace smoke alarms every 10 years.” The fire department had a smoke alarm campaign during the summer months to make Swift Current residents aware of the importance of smoke alarms in their home to survive a fire.
