Bernie Ford, the trustee for subdivision 4 on the board of education of the Chinook School Division, was presented with a long-service award at a regular board meeting, Oct. 11. The presentation was made by Director of Education Liam Choo-Foo. Ford has served as a trustee for 40 years, initially as a board member in the Gull Lake School Division and for the past 10 years on the board of the Chinook School Division. He has worked with eight directors of education during the four decades. Ford, who is a retired farmer that still lives on a quarter section of land near Tompkins, estimates that he has served with between 250 and 300 trustees during this 40-year period.“Young people are my interest, still are,” he said. “I'm very concerned that we educate our youngsters, give them every opportunity that is possible for them.” He is standing again as a candidate for subdivision 4 in the upcoming civic election on Oct. 26, when local residents will also be voting for board members for the Chinook School Division.
