Wet and muddy conditions did not dampen the enthusiasm of participants at the 10th annual Ranchman's Ridin' and Recitin' that took place in association with the 4th annual Young Ranchman's All Breed Show and Little Rancher's program at Kinetic Exhibition Park in Swift Current, Sept. 23-25. After a few days of rain in the run-up to the event some activities such as the heavy horse and ranch horse competitions as well as stock dog trials and ranch rodeo had to be cancelled, but there were still a lot of other cattle related activities during the weekend. Young Ranchman's was well attended with 173 participants in various age categories. The event, which is hosted by the Swift Current Agricultural and Exhibition Association, is a celebration of the region's western heritage and it provides youth an opportunity to develop farming and leadership skills through activities such as a livestock show and a public speaking competition. Pictured are participants in the Little Rancher's program during an activity about the various food items that are produced on farms, the judging during the cattle pen show, the judging in the junior showmanship class and activities during the team grooming competition, as well as entertainment by Swift Current cowboy poet Bryce Burnett and Noel Burles of Coalhurst, Alberta, who is a cowboy poet and musician.
