Saskatchewan Abilities Council hosts barbecue at Market Square during awareness week, Sept. 22, 2016

The Swift Current branch of the Saskatchewan Abilities Council held a barbecue on Market Square to celebrate Saskatchewan Abilities Council Awareness Week, Sept. 22. There was live entertainment and information booths about the different programs and activities at the local branch. Kimi Duzan, the regional director of the Saskatchewan Abilities Council in Swift Current, welcomed people to the barbecue. Three members of the local band Bakersfield, Tony Clark, Skip Neufeld and Al Hudec, provided the musical entertainment. Proceeds raised from the barbecue will be used to support the programs and services offered at the Swift Current branch. The City of Swift Current proclaimed the week of Sept. 18-24 as Saskatchewan Abilities Council Awareness Week and a flag raising ceremony took place at City Hall, Sept. 19. The Saskatchewan Abilities Council Swift Current branch recently launched a new program “Volunteering in the Community” to give individuals with disabilities the opportunity to pursue their volunteer interests in the community.
