Terry Fox Run flag raising at Swift Current City Hall, Sept. 12, 2016

Written by

Swift Current was one of five cities in Saskatchewan that commemorated the legacy of Terry Fox with a flag raising at the local city hall on the same day, Sept. 12. This was the first time that such a flag raising event took place in the province with representatives from each local Terry Fox Run present for  the ceremony. The Terry Fox Run flag was also raised in Prince Albert, Regina, Saskatoon, Weyburn, as well as Lloydminster, Alberta. The 36th annual Terry Fox Run takes place in 2016 and Premier Brad Wall has officially declared Sept. 18 as Terry Fox Day in Saskatchewan. The Terry Fox Run in Swift Current will start at 2 p.m. on Sept. 18 at Riverside Park. It is a non-competitive, all inclusive and family oriented event that gives participants different options to run, walk, rollerblade or bike over a distance of their choice along the Chinook Parkway. Sonia Brooks, one of the run organizers in Swift Current, said 84 cents of every dollar raised will go directly towards cancer research.
