The Swift Current branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) hosted the 20th annual Jimmy Richardson Family Picnic and Walk, Sept. 10. The event included a brief program to recognize the contributions of a number of local CMHA clients during the well attended barbeque at the drop-in centre. After the meal a walk took place from the centre to the nearby Market Square in the city's downtown area. This year's event raised a total of $3,918.90 that will be used to fund the meal program. The CMHA serves about 8,000 meals annually at the drop-in centre in Swift Current to clients with mental illness. The meal program, which operates every week from Monday to Friday, provides breakfast for up to 10 people and lunch for around 25 people per day. The event is named in memory of Jimmy Richardson, who was an enthusiastic supporter of the CMHA and a leading fundraiser for the annual walkathon.
