Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Lawrence MacAulay visited the Swift Current Research and Development Centre, which was previously known as the Semi-Arid Prairie Agricultural Research Centre (SPARC), to announce the federal government's investment of $35.3 million for infrastructure improvements at the facility, Sept. 7. He was joined by Swift Current MLA and Premier and Saskatchewan Minister of Agriculture Lyle Stewart for the announcement. There has already been significant progress with the work to upgrade the facility. The construction of a new wing with modern laboratory facilities is well under way and the old laboratory wing will be renovated to become an office area. MacAulay toured the research plots after the announcement to learn more about the research conducted by scientists at the facility, and he had an opportunity to drive a research plot combine.
