Swift Curent Minor Football kicks off the new season, Sept. 5, 2016

The Swift Current Minor Football Atom and Pee Wee teams started the 2016 season with a number of games at the Highland Park fields, Sept. 5. There are five teams in the Atom division, four in the Pee Wee division and one Bantam team. There is a team from Gull Lake in the Pee Wee division as well as in the Atom division. The two Gull Lake teams have been competing in the Swift Current Minor Football League since last year. A team from Shaunavon joined the league this year in the Atom division. The Swift Current Bantam Steelers have been playing in the Moose Jaw Minor Football League for the past two years and they won the championship in 2015. A championship banner was presented to the Steelers during a brief ceremony on Sept. 5. The Steelers will play their first home game of the season on Sept. 16 at the Swift Current Comprehensive High School sports field under lights.
