Third annual bicycle safety event in Swift Current, May 18, 2016

Written by

Young cyclists were able to learn more about safe cycling practices in a fun way during the 3rd annual bicycle safety event at ACT Park in Swift Current, May 18. The event was organized by the City of Swift Current in partnership with the Cypress Health Region and Bright Beginnings, while a variety of businesses and organizations provided support to make the event possible. A bike safety course has been painted on the surface of the outdoor rink at the park. There is a mock street with crosswalks and stop signs as well as a figure eight, obstacles and a diminishing clearance activity. The course assists cyclists to practise their skills and to gain confidence for riding in an urban environment. There are bike safety courses at all five outdoor rinks in Swift Current for families to use at any time during the summer. Swift Current is the first community in the province to have these bike safety courses available for residents.
