A large number of families enjoyed a relaxed afternoon at Innovation Credit Union's 36th annual Picnic in the Park at Riverside Park in Swift Current, June 4. The event included food and refreshments, a variety of displays and booths, face painting, children's games and stage entertainment.

 

The activities during Swift Current's inaugural Pride Week concluded with a Pride dance at the Lyric Theatre, June 3. Southwest Saskatchewan Pride has been hosting an annual event in the city for a number of years to highlight gender and sexual diversity, but this year's event had additional significance as a celebration of achieving a new milestone with the community's first Pride Week. The evening's entertainment included performances by local musicians and a drag show.

A variety of activities took place during Swift Current’s inaugural Pride Week from May 29 to June 3. The event was organized by Southwest Saskatchewan Pride to celebrate the community’s diversity. On June 3 a family barbecue and Pride march took place at Market Square. Participants enjoyed live music and visited the different vendor stalls, there were free activities for children, and speeches by a number of dignitaries before the start of the Pride march.

 

The Western Major Baseball League's 2017 season got underway on June 1. The Swift Current 57's will not only be defending their 2016 championship title, but the team will be doing it while playing in their new colours and under a new name. The Swift Current 57's recognized Swift Current athletes who captured provincial or league titles during the past year during a pre-game ceremony at the Night of Champions season opener, June 1. The 57's had a solid start by winning all three home games. They opened the season with a 3-2 win against the Moose Jaw Miller Express. Returning pitcher Bobby St. Pierre gave the home team the win with five strikeouts, two hits and one unearned run over six innings. The 57's also won two games against the Melville Millionaires. Another solid pitching effort resulted in a 4-1 win for the Swift Current team on June 3, and the 57's batters exploded in the June 4 game to defeat the visitors 13-1, with Blake Adams responsible for five RBI's.
