Singer-songwriter-pianist Jeffery Straker performs over 100 shows throughout Canada each year, and will be showcasing his talents on Art Gallery of Swift Current's beautiful grand piano on Feb. 8, part of the Grand Piano Sessions concert series, presented by Blenders.

Straker's piano folk-pop-cabaret music has earned him comparisons to early Elton John, Ben Folds, Sarah Slean, Neil Young, Rufus Wainwright, and Harry Chapin, but his style is really all his own. Recently, Straker recorded for CBC Radio's 'Canada Live', and had a music video rise to #6 on Canada's MuchMoreMusic.

This classically trained pianist swears he was born under the piano on the family farm in small town Saskatchewan, to a church organist mother and an auctioneer father. His time in Saskatchewan had a profound effect on Straker, and his independently released debut album featured ten songs inspired by the people and places of the province.

Since then, Straker has released three more albums. His most recent release, 2012's Vagabond, debuted in the top 20 on the iTunes singer-songwriter charts, and received positive reviews from critics across Canada. Straker tours consistently throughout the year, with shows ranging from intimate house concerts to a sold-out orchestral debut with the full Regina Symphony Orchestra in 2011.

Straker's songwriting has also earned him a great deal of attention – he was a national top 10 finalist in the Canadian Radiostar Songwriting Competition, and a top 20 finalist in the global Unisong Competition. In 2012, Straker traveled to Ghana, Africa to perform six shows and conduct songwriting workshops with local musicians and students. Straker tours across the globe – to places like Ireland, China, New York City, and even a cathedral in Panama.

Highlights of Straker's recent touring include a debut performance at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, his 4th invite to the Breakout West Festival (Western Canadian Music Awards), Regina Folk Festival performance, and showcasing at Canadian Music Week in Toronto. He has also performed at JunoFest and NXNE.

Straker will be performing at Art Gallery of Swift Current on Feb. 8 as part of the Grand Piano Sessions concert series. Doors open at 8 p.m., with music starting at 9pm.
