Edmonton-based folk-rock band Wool on Wolves is an ever-evolving collaboration of five songwriters, a band in which everyone works together to create the song.

This unique group will perform Jan. 18 at the Lyric Theatre in Swift Current, as part of the Blenders music series.
Formed in fall of 2008, Wool on Wolves began as a group of university friends and multi-instrumentalists from a myriad of backgrounds. Drawing on each other’s strengths, the group started writing music together — focusing on exploring genuine emotions and creating diverse musical arrangements. Inspirations for their music came from a variety of artists, including Joel Plaskett, The Band, and The Beatles.
The group released their first EP in 2010, Hate Is Poor. The five-song recording was the result of a year-long battle fought against the exploitative side of the music industry.
The group returned to the studio to record their first full-length album Grey Matter, earning the band favourable comparisons to Wilco, the Band, and Ryan Adams, and garnered them two Edmonton Music Awards and a Western Canadian Music Award nomination for Rock Recording of the Year.
In early 2012, the group began working on their sophomore album, Measures of Progress. The album is a dense and meticulous collection of songs expressing a bold artistic vision. Lyrically, Measures of Progress reflects on the modern world, while touching on timeless themes including struggle and disillusionment.
The band continues to innovate, experimenting with new tones, recording techniques, and complex song structures.
Wool on Wolves brings that same creative vibe to their live performances, frequently switching between many instruments such as harmonica, banjo, glockenspiel, violin, and trumpet to add variety to their arrangements. This young but experienced band is sure to leave the audience thinking and dancing.
On Jan. 18, Wool on Wolves will bring their unique brand of folk-rock to Swift Current, where they will perform at the Lyric Theatre. Doors open at 8 p.m., with music beginning at 9pm.
