Three-piece alt-country group Elliott Brood will make its return to Swift Current Oct. 5, bringing its ‘death country’ music back to the Lyric Theatre as part of the 2013-2014 Blenders Music Series Special Concert lineup.

The band features Mark Sasso on lead vocals, guitar, banjo, ukulele, harmonica, and kazoo, and Casey Laforet on guitar, lead vocals, backing vocals, bass pedals, keys, and ukulele.
The duo has performed together since 2002, but in 2005, Stephen Pitkin joined on percussion, sampler, and backing vocals to release the group’s first full-length album, Ambassador.
Since then, the talented trio have toured extensively throughout Canada, as well as internationally.
They have opened for acts including Wilco, War On Drugs, Blue Rodeo, The Black Crows, Corb Lund, Do Make Say Think, and The Sadies, as well as headlining many other shows.
At the 2010 Winter Olympics in British Columbia, Elliott Brood played at the Olympic Village and Whistler.
Despite an incredibly busy touring schedule, the group has released three full-length albums since their debut EP Tin Type, in 2004. The band’s most recent release, Days Into Years, won a 2013 Juno award, and their 2008 recording Mountain Meadows was nominated for the 2009 Polaris Music Prize. In 2011, their single Northern Air also received a CBC Radio 3 Bucky Award for Most Canadian Song.
The band’s songwriting highlights their interest in history and storytelling. With a sound that has been described as ‘death country’, ‘blackgrass’, and ‘frontier rock’, Elliott Brood features distorted guitar sounds, scratchy vocals, and old-time, thumping percussion.
Their energetic and raucous live performances have captivated audiences around the world.
Elliott Brood will perform at the Lyric Theatre in Swift Current on Oct. 5 as a special concert in addition to this year’s fantastic Blenders 2013-2014 season lineup. As this is a special concert, it is not included in the Blenders season pass. Doors open at 8 p.m. with music beginning at 9 p.m.
Tickets for the show are $40, and can be purchased at Pharmasave or by contacting Shann at 306-778-2686 or emailing: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .
