Although ticket sales started less than a week ago, country superstar Randy Travis’ upcoming performance at Living Sky Casino is selling out fast. Marketing Coordinator Jacqueline Hudec noted that after only one week, 76% of tickets for the show are sold.

“He’s won many Grammys and Country Music Awards, and he’s been around for a really long time,” she explained. “This is a great way to see him in a more intimate venue than at an event like Craven, and it’s right here in Swift Current. It’s comfortable, the sound is great, and there’s not a bad seat in the house.”

With several other big-name performers coming to the casino this year, Hudec isn’t surprised to see tickets selling so quickly. Chubby Checker’s show later this month sold out quickly, Jo Dee Messina’s concert on May 24 is almost entirely sold out, and Dean Brody’s performance on Feb 2 of this year sold out completely in only a week and a half.

“It really depends on supply and demand, but most of the people here want country music or classic rock,” Hudec said. “Blenders offers a totally different type of music altogether, and Stars for Saskatchewan as well, and there are only so many people in this area to build and audience – we don’t want to take away from them.”

Although Hudec tries to cater to the casino’s younger audience, she finds that most of the people with the disposable income to attend concerts are country music lovers. However, she welcomes feedback from the community as to which performers they would like to see.

“It really depends on who is touring at the time, and if we have the money to work with it,” she admitted. “We do up a budget for the year, and I work within that budget to plan the entertainment per quarter. That’s what determines how many big shows we have.”

Since Living Sky Casino is part of a larger corporation, they are able to share the cost of bigger shows with their other sites. SIGA is also very well-known for their standards and policies, so performers are aware of SIGA’s reputation and are excited to work with them.

“We handle all different genres of entertainment and are very well-respected, and we have a wonderful facility to handle that kind of show,” said Hudec. “We’re lucky to have Randy Travis, and people are really responding to that. They’re excited, and really want to see him, so they are willing to pay for tickets to come out.”

Tickets for Randy Travis’ performance on July 12 are $75, and are available online at the Living Sky Casino Box Office (www.livingskycasino.ca/boxoffice) or by calling 306-778-5759.
