Oratorio Choir from 2014. Oratorio Choir from 2014.

Despite the snow in early October, Southwest Saskatchewan has enjoyed an exceptionally pleasant fall, but as Christmas draws closer, snow and colder temperatures will be coming.

The Swift Current Oratorio Choir has been getting in the Christmas spirit since September, when they began rehearsals for their Christmas program, Cold Snow & Hearts Aglow.
The concert will feature music to warm the cold of winter and spread the joy of Christmas. It will include contemporary arrangements of both new and classic songs, as well as traditional carols that will invite the audience to sing along.
The Swift Current Oratorio Choir is directed by Marcia McLean, and accompanied by Amy Kehler. Guest instrumentalists from the area will join the choir for some of the choral selections.
The concert will also feature music by Prairie Spirit, a smaller auditioned choir originally born out of the larger Oratorio Choir. Prairie Spirit is also directed by McLean, and is accompanied by Sheila Braun.
The Swift Current Oratorio Choir is a community choir based in Swift Current, but it draws singers from all over southwest Saskatchewan. For more than 40 years, the choir has gathered weekly to rehearse for Christmas and spring programs and to share the joy of singing together, in addition to learning and developing their vocal talents.
With so many choir members coming from outside of Swift Current, the Oratorio choir will perform their concert in Shaunavon as well as in Swift Current.
Cold Snow & Hearts Aglow will be presented on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. at Centre Street United Church in Shaunavon, and on Monday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. at Zion Mennonite Church in Swift Current.
Advance tickets are available at Andersboda in Shaunavon or Pharmasave in Swift Current for $15. Admission at the door is $20.
