Tumbleweed Theatre is kicking off Alberta Culture Days festivities in Brooks with the debut of its latest production — the locally-written crime drama, Los Angeles, 1983 on Thursday, Sept. 26.

“Our board of directors decided we should ramp up our fall production rehearsal a bit early this season to have something ready for Alberta Culture Days,” said Tumbleweed President Cathryn Krochak.
“We thought with Los Angeles, 1983 being an originally-written script, that it fit well with what Alberta Arts Week is all about and Tumbleweed is glad to be part of this celebration of the arts.”
Los Angeles, 1983 is an original crime drama written by Brooks writer/director Rob Brown.
The play follows a handful of police precinct detectives as they track a serial killer and work a case of missing sex trade workers. Brown promises a different look-and-feel from previous Tumbleweed shows.
“The play follows a couple of relatively serious, but anecdotal hours in a police precinct in real time, performing in an immersive set.
Los Angeles, 1983 will run four times over the course of Alberta Culture Days, running each night at 7 p.m. on each Sept. 26, 27 and 28, and a special Saturday matinee Sept. 28 at 2 p.m.
The play will run throughout October, with 7 p.m. shows on Oct. 4, 5 and 25, and a special late show after the annual Brooks Zombie Walk on Oct. 26.
Los Angeles, 1983 is part of the celebrations occurring throughout the province during Alberta Culture Days. Alberta Culture Days runs Sept. 27-29. To learn more, visit www.AlbertaCultureDays.ca.
