2016 has been good to dance academy from Brooks

Rhythmic Soles Dance Academy’s (RSDA) competitive students from Brooks and County of Newell recently competed at the Catch a Rising Star Grand Championships in Drumheller and were named “Champions of the Year.”

Twelve-year-old dancer Emma Guan from Brooks was named “Dancer of the Year”.
In order to qualify for the event Brooks dancers had to place in the top three highest marks in their division in the local Galaxy competition.
Other studios qualified at competitions in Olds, Drumheller, Camrose and Settler.
Fifteen dance studios competed at the Grand Championships. Studios were from Central and Southern Alberta and included Medicine Hat, Lethbridge, Calgary, Strathmore, Settler, Camrose and Okotoks.
Overall, Rhythmic Soles had one of their strongest competitive seasons ever.
In the Brooks Galaxy Competition in April, RSDA’s Advanced Jazz Group “Salute” received the highest mark of the competition and received the top award.
Taylor Massey, Harrison Gietz and Halle Cruthers also received overall awards for high marks on their solos.
Blanca Grobbelaar was named “Most Promising Soloist” and Kati Evans was named “Rising Star Soloist.”
RSDA was also award the “People Choice Award” on all three days of the competition.
On the road the Intermediate and Senior Dancers performed at a competition in Lake Louise against studios from Calgary, Edmonton and Red Deer and did extremely well.
The production number Beauty and the Beast was awarded first place Production and in the 12 and under division Guan received the second place Overall Dancer of the Year and awarded a scholarship.
Overall, the studio received 21 first-place finishings in a variety of categories.
At Medicine Hat competition, RSDA had nine numbers perform in the Dance Off and were awarded first overall in the Intermediate and Advanced Divisions.
Competing in Lethbridge, RSDA had eight numbers perform in the Dance off and received first overall in the Intermediate 1 and Intermediate 2 Division, as well as a second place overall finish in the Advanced Division.
Yzabel Bauyon was awarded a summer school scholarship to a school in Edmonton and Guan was awarded a Summer School Scholarship to a school in Camrose. Evans received a prestigious scholarship to take classes at the Harbour Dance Centre in Vancouver, B.C.
