The going gets tough, but the tough can’t always get going

This has been one hell of a month, where things have been tough and the universe added a lot to my plate.

There were times of feeling overwhelmed and busy. Moments where I wondered, “where do I even start?” It felt as if my dream lists got put on the back burner for to-do lists. I didn’t feel like myself. The joy train took a detour and I found myself in the land of “overwhelm.”
Plans can often get detoured. Goals can get sidetracked. The invitation however is to stay focused, keep the to-do lists and expectations of yourself to a minimum, and remember that less is more.
My challenge was that I thought I could do it all. I overloaded my joy train and it went nowhere.
Two amazing nuggets for you: 1. We will never get it all done. 2. There is always time.
I didn’t get everything done that I desired to in the past month. I had to put things on hold, say no to others, bump my personal deadlines, and accept that my life at that time was full on, and the expectations I held for myself were too high.
When I stopped resisting my full-on experiences, I was more able to move through my day with greater ease and grace. Yes, there were moments when I too was full on and crazy stressed out, worried in my head and off my centre. Here is the ticket friends: I don’t have to become my experiences, I simply have to choose how I relate and move through them.
When I choose the path of least resistance, the universe shows up and offers me space and time; space and time to breathe and move through my daily journey.
I am reminded of the 1986 song by Billy Ocean: When the going get tough, the tough get going from the movie Romancing The Stone. Billy Ocean passionately sings: “I’m gonna put these dreams in motion. Gonna let nothing stand in my way. I’ll climb any mountain. I’ll do anything. When the going gets tough, the tough get going. When the going gets rough, the tough get rough.”
The mountains in our life can be big and feel overwhelming. To manifest the dreams we hold for ourselves can involve great effort and fierce focus. And yes, when the going gets tough, the tough get going.
When life gets complicated, it doesn’t mean we quit and give up. It means we are invited to explore our priorities and what really matters in our life.
When we find ourselves off centre, it doesn’t mean we accept defeat and that there is a winner and a loser. It does mean there is always time to nurture your dreams. Taking a break and offering yourself space along the journey is a good thing.
Sometimes the mountains we have to climb are our own expectations and ways of relating to our life.
What would my life look like if I let go of my own expectations and judgments of myself and saw everything in my life as an opportunity to expand into even more possibility? What if I embraced the path of least resistance and flowed with my life rather than tried to control it?
“When the going gets tough, the tough get going”. Yes the last month was tough and this I know is true: I am powerful beyond measure and can do this thang.
With fierce focus and passionate determination I am always in action — one step closer to my dreams; even if the joy train finds itself occasionally in the land of overwhelm.
My invitation: How do you know when you are off centre and in the land of overwhelm? What would it take to invite flow along the journey and let go of control? What can you say no to that will provide you with more breathing space along the journey? Are your dreams on hold because you have taken on too much and have lost your mojo? Get brave and get back on the joy train friends. Sacredly witness your journey with compassion and acceptance. Be Brave! Be Bold! Be all that you can be!
