Prairie Rose School Division board trustees feel the learning opportunities for students taking part in a trip to Costa Rica next spring, far outweigh the risks.

It will have been seven years since the City of Brooks and County of Newell have hosted the Southern Alberta Summer Games, but officials are looking forward to showing off the community again in 2017.

With increased activity of the mosquito that can transmit the West Nile Virus seen in southern Saskatchewan, Alberta Health Services (AHS) officials in the South Zone are warning residents to start taking precautions against being bitten by the annoying bugs.

Parents who want their children to benefit from receiving an education in a small, rural school setting, are upset that may not be possible in New Brigden.

Students who are 21 but still interested in earning their high-school diplomas, will continue to be funded to do so by Grasslands Regional Division for this  school year. Overage students were discussed at the June 20 meeting.

Prairie Rose School Division Board (PRSD) of Trustees will write to the provincial government expressing concern about the future loss of funding for some of the most vulnerable students in the southeast corner.

Although New Brigden School will be open and ready for students in September, just how many children in the Kindergarten to Grade 9 rural school will show up is still in question.

Grasslands Public Schools is predicting a deficit budget for the 2016/17 school year, but how high in the red the division will be could change if enrolment comes in higher than projected.

PRSD set to sell parcel of land

A land transaction that has been in the works for some time, finally found resolution at the June 14 regular Prairie Rose School Division meeting.

Officials with Oyen Public School have found the Missoula Children’s Theatre productions to not only be reasonably priced, but to offer valuable experiences for students.
