The Blenders Music Series is happy to announce the performance of Vancouver-based, two-time Juno-Award-winning Canadian musician, Daniel Mangan.

On Saturday, Nov. 28, at the Lyric Theatre, the singer-songwriter will take the stage with his experimental rock/folk.
In 2003, at just 20 years old, Mangan completed his first set of recordings, and acoustic EP entitled All at Once. Since then his career took off and he has been the recipient of many impressive awards. Mangan was the 2012 Juno winner of both the “New Artist of the Year” award and “Alternative Album of the Year” award. He has also shared the stage and toured with many popular artists, such as The Decemberists, Broken Social Scene, Mumford & Sons, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Metric, Hey Rosetta!, Mother Mother, Yukon Blonde, Vampire Weekend, Sam Roberts Band, and Tegan & Sara.
In 2011, right after the release of his successful third album, Oh Fortune, Mangan took a small hiatus. Many felt as though the hiatus would be a risk and that it was the time to accelerate rather than slow down, but for Mangan it was a necessity.
“It was like I was obsessed with keeping the plates spinning,” he stated from his home in 2011. “The distraction was nice, but I had some work to do that didn’t involve performing. I had to think about what it takes to live out a long body of work, and why I wanted that in the first place.”
After his time away, Mangan has returned with some of his best work yet, that was enriched with passionate lyrics and an expressive sound. From the traditional stripped-down acoustic folk of his earlier work, to the sweeping orchestration and avant-jazz arrangements of 2012’s Oh Fortune, Mangan works best when he’s moving forward and challenging himself.
His latest release is a departure, both sonically and thematically. The music is darker and more complex, but just as affecting as anything he’s ever done, with the richness and honesty of his singular voice ascending over the music.
Residents will not want to miss Mangan at the Lyric Theatre on Nov. 28. Tickets will be $35 and available at Pharmasave. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. and the music will begin at 8:30 p.m. For more information about the show or the Blenders Music Series check out the website, www.blenders music.ca, or contact Shann Gowan at 306-778-2686, or This email address is being protected from spambots.
