Lee’s Greenhouses owner, Bill Lee, along with other Swift Current businesses, named the Moose Jaw Military Family Resource Centre as the beneficiary of their 3rd annual $1,000,000 Hole in One Texas Scramble.

The golf tournament was held on August 26, 2011 at the Elmwood Golf Course in Swift Current. There were 140 participants in the golf tournament which included 8 military members. Four MFRC staff were also on hand to help run three of the holes, raffle and 50/50.

Opening ceremony included O Canada sung by a local artist, a parade drill by the air cadets and a fly pass by two Harvards from 15 Wing.

Mr Lee felt compelled to help military families after watching a documentary on the news. Bill, along with his accountant Trish Braun, organized the entire tournament which included promotion/advertising, collection of registrations, securing donations for prizes, and recruiting a large group of volunteers.
The day was a great success with over $20,000 being raised in support for military families. The generosity and support from the community of Swift Current was outstanding and unexpected.
We would like to thank Bill Lee and Trish Braun for their amazing effort and generosity.  We are truly grateful to them for organizing this golf tournament in our honour.

The MFRC will use the donation to support services not covered by the public purse, such as;
assistance with grief counselling;
expenses for family members
assistance for family members to visit an ill/injured member or child in the hospital;
expenses for family member to assist with emergency childcare;
children’s deployment workshops
family separation & reunion respite childcare
as well as incidental funeral expenses.
