The last day of the Parks Play Program on Aug. 12, the City of Swift Current's recreation department will host a Harry Potter-themed penny carnival.

The Penny Carnival will be held at Riverside Park from 1-4 p.m. Families can come and enjoy games, a bounce house, carnival food, face painting and prizes. Popcorn, hot dogs, cotton candy and snow cones are being sold for under $1 and each game is just 10 cents.

Kelsy Leavins, the City's Summer Programs Coordinator, said the Parks Play Program went over extremely well and the carnival will be a fun way to celebrate the summer.

"We averaged about 100 kid visits per park, per week," explained Leavins who added there were a lot of highlights including trying new theme days like a culture day and a Christine Ciaona-led fun zumba class. This zumba class will be one the recreation department will do again next year.

Leavins said the carnival will have about 20 volunteers in total, including eight assisting with food. She is hoping for 300 young people to participate.

The Parks Play program are thankful for all of the participants, volunteers, and sponsors for making our programs a success.

All parks will be closed on Aug. 12th in preparation for this event and in the case of poor weather the Penny Carnival will be held at the i-plex Curling Arena.
