Swift Current’s Lyric Theatre is lining up something special for this year’s Valentine’s Day week. Instead of offering one dinner Taste It! showcase event, the theatre will be providing a pre-Valentine’s Day French breakfast, as well.

“Last year, we had Art Gallery of Swift Current create these fantastic French awnings for us, and we got so many fantastic compliments that people felt like they were in Paris, we decided to revisit Paris again this year,” explained Gwen Uher, President of the Southwest Cultural Development Group. “This year, we will offer a breakfast on the Sunday before Valentine’s day, and then offer our five-course showcase meal on Feb. 14.”

Uher hopes that by offering two unique meals, the events will appeal to different audiences and attract a wider variety of guests. The breakfast will be provided by Chef Noy, from the Star Café in Maple Creek. Chef Lam from Casey’s restaurant in Swift Current will be doing the menu for the Taste It! Showcase.

“Some people won’t choose to go to both, but this way we might be able to bring in two different crowds to enjoy our Parisian street,” Uher noted. “And both events are fundraisers for the Lyric, with the money going towards helping us cover our operating costs.”

The events are offered through the generous support of the Swift Current business community, including presenting sponsors Blue Sky Lingerie, Grower Direct, and Innovation Credit Union. This sponsorship makes it possible for the Lyric to present these events at a lower cost to them, allowing them to raise a bit of money while providing a unique service to the community.

“Without that support, we wouldn’t be able to have the programming we do, or continue to maintain and improve the building,” Uher said. “It’s important that people continue to come out, because we are always trying to offer fun events that you wouldn’t typically get in Swift Current.”

While Uher noted that Swift Current boasts a great lineup of restaurant options, they have standard menus and don’t feature some of the unique foods presented at the showcases. Thanks to the great chefs in the area, these culinary delights can be enjoyed right here in Swift Current.

“I think they appreciate the challenge of creating some of these new foods, and from what we gather, the people here appreciate it, as well,” noted Uher. “It’s wonderful to have the opportunity to try some of these new foods, and our chefs not only make it a delight for the taste buds, but a visual treat, too. The presentation is fantastic.”

Uher is anticipating that both events will be sold out, and encourages anyone interested in purchasing a ticket to do so well in advance. Due to the nature of the event, it’s important to know ahead of time how many people will be attending, so the chefs are able to accommodate everyone.

For more information or for tickets, contact Gwen Uher at 306-774-9866 for the breakfast or Gail Leier at 306-773-2714 for the showcase. Tickets are $25 for breakfast, and $65 for the five-course meal.
