For more than 25 years, the Great Canadian Barn Dance has been associated with fine food, family fun and wonderful music.

This year, the annual Family Harvest Festival on Saturday, Sept. 24 will take those key elements to the next level, incorporating a Fiddlers’ Jamboree into the day-long list of family activities.

“The Great Canadian Barn Dance is thrilled to introduce this extraordinary new tradition,”

says Trevor Kunkel, resort owner and festival organizer. “We’re planning a magnificent end to summer.”

Hailed as one of Southern Alberta’s premier fiddling destinations, the Great Canadian Barn Dance has received praise and accolades from across Western Canada, including Alberta’s Society of Fiddlers.

“The experience that I have had over the years is that jamborees are a terrific way for players of all ages and levels of experience to play and share their love of fiddle music,” says fiddler society member Randy Jones.

“The warm and supportive atmosphere at fiddle jamborees helps players feel more at ease while providing great entertainment for the audience.”

The festival begins at 1 p.m. with a Fiddling Fun and Jam Session for all ages and abilities with group and solo performances. Fiddlers need to phone 1-866-626-3407 to pre-register.

Games will commence at 3 p.m. with an array of family-filled fun, including crafts, corn shucking and scarecrow-making contests, wagon rides, Granny’s gift shop and Tea House, and dance lessons.

Everyone will get their fill of savoury roast beef at the roast beef dinner buffet, capped off with the ever-popular Barn Dance All-Stars to play favourites for everyone.

It’s time for fiddlers to rosen up their bows. It’s a festival and jamboree like no other. Tickets for all activities, dinner and dance are $40 for adults, $35 for seniors, $30 for youth (12-17) and $12.50 for children. Day Passes are $5 for youth and $10 for adults. (Prices do not include GST).

Phone 1-866-626-3407 or www.gcbd.ca for reservations.
