LaVar Payne, Conservative Member of Parliament for the Medicine Hat Constituency, announced Jan. 13 funding for the Medicine Hat Folk Music Club.

“I am very pleased that our government is once again supporting our local community in helping to fund this important event,” says LaVar Payne. “The Medicine Hat Folk Music Club is facilitating culture in our community and is continuing to enhance the lives of constituents of all ages with this festival.”

The Medicine Hat Folk Music Club has received funding of $4,100.00 to help present its Tongue on the Post Folk Festival, which will take place from January 23-28, 2012.

David Gue, chairman of the Festival Organizing Committee says "We are thrilled that Tongue on the Post has again been recognized by the Building Communities program. Funding assistance from all levels of government is an essential element in TOP's success and growth. This grant is a great compliment to the outstanding support provided by our local sponsors and volunteers."

The Government of Canada created the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program in September 2007. This program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in local activities that present arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage. This program will benefit many community events and celebrations throughout Canada this year.
