Write Out Loud celebrates 30 years of author readings and literary cafes this season with an exciting lineup of prairie authors.

The first reading events in Swift Current were organized by Writer-in-Residence, Rick Hillis, in 1986-87.
They took place at Heidi’s Restaurant for most of that year and have continued in various forms and venues before finding a new home and a new name at the Lyric Theatre in 2010.
Swift Current has been host to many interesting and accomplished authors.
Most of the original presenters were members of the local Shortgrass Writers’ Group, but the circle soon widened to include visiting authors from across the prairies.
The reading series continues to be a popular tradition, another valuable thread in Swift Current’s rich cultural fabric.
The Write Out Loud Committee is pleased to announce its 2016-17 season:
• Sept. 21 — Alice Kuipers and Yann Martel;
• Oct. 19 — Lionel Hughes, editor of Prairies North Magazine;
• Nov. 16 — 30th Anniversary Celebration with local award-winning cowboy poet, Bryce Burnett. Also, Hugh Henry will share memories of Swift Current’s literary tradition.
• Feb. 15 — Local Writers Night;
• March 15 — Darren Prefontaine;
• April 19 — Lynda Monahan;
• May 17 — Rod MacIntyre, Writer-in-Residence in Swift Current, 1997-98.
Join our celebration. Admission is $8, and doors open at the Lyric Theatre at 6:30 p.m. Musical entertainment begins at 7 p.m. with the featured author to follow.
