Artisans sale set for Sunday, Dec. 9

After successful Artisan Christmas 2011 and Spring Artisan 2012 sales, three southwest Saskatchewan artisans have again joined together to present their latest unique creations to the public at the Christmas Artisan Sale on Dec. 9 from 1-5 p.m. at Skyswept Designs Studio at the Entrepreneurial Centre, 885 6th Ave N.E., Swift Current.

Families will be able to continue to enjoy a delightful holiday tradition this year with the Lyric Theatre’s Christmas Matinée, which will be offered on Dec. 15 and 16, at 1:30pm. In addition to making a craft and having a visit with Santa, kids will also have the chance to watch A Muppet Family Christmas.

Gimme Mo' Betties another successful night

Swift Current's Redneck Betties hosted their annual Gimme Mo' Betties calendar release party and Movember fundraiser over the weekend. With almost 150 people out for the event, the group was pleased to be able to sell some calendars and also raise some money to support men's health.

Saskatchewan writer Candace Savage was recently awarded the Hilary Weston Writers' Trust Prize for Nonfiction for A Geography of Blood: Unearthing Memory from a Prairie Landscape. The $60,000 prize is, in terms of financial value, the largest nonfiction award in the country.

Zombageddon premieres to great crowd

After months of planning, filming, and editing, Swift Current’s own horror movie Zombageddon premiered to nearly 300 people at Sky Centre on Oct. 31. The film was the result of a collaboration between Bob Taylor and Devon Oman, who worked tirelessly with volunteers from across the Southwest to put a film together with virtually no budget.

Lyric Theatre set to host Vaudeville Gala Nov. 3

Swift Current’s Lyric Theatre will celebrate its 100th birthday with style, hosting a Vaudeville Gala event Nov. 3 to finish off a year of Living Legacy events.

Artists in the southwest and elsewhere will be welcomed in Val Marie November 9 – 12 for three days of painting to revive their creativity and discover or their expand skills in supportive and comfortable surroundings.
