Ronan Tynan to open Stars Series Sept. 25

The Swift Current Allied Arts Council is marking its 45th anniversary and “Celebrating 45 Years of Bringing the Arts to You” as part of the Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils. The Council is pleased the 2013-2014 Stars for Saskatchewan series opener will be world-renowned tenor Ronan Tynan Sept. 26.

With the cancellation of the Saskatchewan film tax credit last year, many in the province thought it was the end of the provincial film and television industry. Some larger production companies did close their doors and many talented actors, writers and filmmakers did leave the province.

Creative young minds in the southwest will have plenty of opportunities for cultural development and experimentation with Art Gallery of Swift Current's summer camps. Art camp will be offered to youths aged 10-16 from July 15-19, or July 22-26, and music camp is available for youths aged 14-18, from July 29-August 2.


With mostly clear skies and great winds, the weather was perfect for last weekend's 9th Annual Windscape Kite Festival. On June 22 and 23, the skies above Swift Current were filled with an incredible array of kites varying from enormous inflatable kites to study and fast sport kites.

With the wide variety of programming available at Swift Current Library, there is something to appeal to people of any age and interest. This month, a new Alfred Hitchcock film club will kick off with their first presentation – Vertigo, on June 25.
