Doc's Town hosts Made by Hand, Aug. 16, 2015

A number of crafters participated in the Made by Hand afternoon at the Doc's Town Heritage Village in Swift Current, Aug. 16. The event included a blacksmith's hammer-in at the William Ball blacksmith shop. There were arts and crafts displays as well as demonstrations of the practical skills required by early settlers on the prairie. Special programming takes place every Sunday afternoon at the heritage village, which is located at Kinetic Exhibition Park. The buildings and tea room at Doc's Town is open every Friday through Sunday and holiday Mondays from 1-5 p.m. until September.


Dirt oval racers had to deal with a slippery track at the Speedy Creek Raceway in Swift Current on Aug. 15 after some rainfall earlier in the day, but it added to the excitement for race fans on a chilly evening. The feature race winners were Mathew Palaschak (Thunder Trucks), Destiny Klym (Hobby Stock), Mike Dionne (Street Stock) and Kelly Baumann (Modifieds). The final race of the season will take place on Aug. 29 with racing starting at 7 p.m.


The Eliminators Car Club in Swift Current, which was established in 1970, hosted its 35th annual Riverside Run Show and Shine in Riverside Park, Aug. 15. Dark clouds and a slight drizzle during the afternoon did not deter the many car fans who came out to look at the vehicles on display.


The 1st annual Speedy Creek Throwdown skateboard competition took place at the Kiwanis Sk8 Park on Aug. 8. The event was well attended with around 60 competitors. Below are the results from the competition:
