There has been a positive response from the community to the Swift Current United Way’s new premiere fundraising event in the fall.

The first annual Foundation of Hope gala will take place Nov. 7 at the Living Sky Casino Sky Centre.
Swift Current United Way Executive Director Stacey Schwartz said only about 50 of the 184 seats are still available.
“We were looking through our invites, our tickets, and basically we have about 50 seats that are unconfirmed,” she mentioned. “So we don’t have a lot of extra room to play around with as far as seating, which in my mind is a good thing that there is that much interest, because we have a lot of people that are asking and wanting to know about it.”
The event will be a vintage Hollywood-style soiree to honour and celebrate the Swift Current United Way’s 12 non-profit partners in the community.
She encouraged people who are interested in attending the event to contact the United Way office.
“We can definitely get their name on the list,” she said. “If people want an opportunity or a chance at a ticket they should call us sooner than later.”
Schwartz was speaking after receiving a cheque of $3,000 from bronze sponsor Sign Here Signs & Printing during a presentation July 30. This sponsorship will make a significant difference towards covering the expenses for signage for the event.
“It’s more profit at the end of the day, which goes back into the 12 community programs that we’re raising money for,” Schwartz said. “So definitely it helps a huge amount.”
A variety of signage will be required in the run-up to the event as well as for the gala, including red carpet backdrops and table signs. These signs as well as other items such as sponsorship packages and invitations are all printed by Sign Here Signs & Printing.
“The $3,000 that Sign Here Signs gave us is going to cover a huge chunk of that,” she said. “There’s going to be lots of signage that’s going to be coming in the near future.”
Sign Here Signs & Printing co-owner Lawrence Carr said it is important for the company to give back to the community.
“We serve the community and the community helps us by using us,” he noted. “So it’s always something to put back into our own community. That’s what I’m a fan of and that’s what we do here.”
The company has previously worked with the Swift Current United Way and he feels positive about the upcoming gala.
“I think it’s a great deal and they’ve put a lot of effort into it,” he said. “So hopefully everything turns out real well for them.”
According to Schwartz there has been a positive response from the business community to the gala.
“It’s been a really good response actually,” she said. “In the last couple of weeks I’ve had other businesses calling and inquiring about it.”
The United Way has been finalizing the live auction packages for the event and businesses can support the gala through the donation of items or cash for the auction.
The Foundation of Hope gala will not only be a glamorous and elegant evening for those in attendance, but the event will be a means to raise the United Way’s profile in the community and to highlight the important work done by its member agencies.
The 12 member agencies of the Swift Current United Way provide more than 150 programs and services in the Swift Current area. Their impact is significant and approximately one in seven people in the city are using or have used a service provided by a United Way member agency.
