Five things one may not know about the health foundation

The Dr. Noble Irwin Regional Healthcare Foundation has been around since 1999.

In that time, we have gathered public support for health care projects in southwest Saskatchewan.
Most southwest residents have heard of us and have an idea of what it is we do and why.
There are some things about what we do that many people don’t know about. Here is what we consider to be the top five:
1. The Foundation runs the gift shop at the Cypress Regional Hospital.
For years, the dedicated and hard working auxiliary group handled the hospital gift shop. When the new hospital was constructed, it included a larger gift shop. At that time the Foundation entered into an agreement to look after it. Since taking it on, we have been able to provide a variety of gift items and confectionery for sale at the hospital, as well as create a couple of part-time jobs.
2. The Foundation also runs Rotary House. What is Rotary House? It’s kind of like a smaller version of Ronald McDonald House, located across from the Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current.
There are six, nicely-furnished rooms that share a common TV area, common kitchen area, and two common bathrooms. It was built by the Swift Current Rotary Club and is intended to be used by those staying in town for medical reasons, either for themselves or their loved ones.
Rooms are available seven nights a week at $45/night.
3. Scholarships are part of what we do. Our Skills Enrichment Scholarship Program is funded by an endowment set up by the Lee/Irwin families as well as Dr. Dawood Moola. We provide scholarships to those interested in improving or acquiring skills related to health care, and looking to begin or continue working in the Cypress Health Region. If you know someone looking at furthering his or her education in health care, tell them to take a look at our SESP.
4. Your gift can be designated for specific purposes. Quite often a donor will have a specific reason for making their gift. They will have a facility they want to support, or a particular area of health care.
We can and do accommodate those requests. If you have a particular desire to support long-term care for an example, your wish will be honoured, you just have to let us know what it is you want.
5. Finally, we are autonomous, and volunteer led. A lot of people don’t realize that we are not a part of the Cypress Health Region. We enjoy a close relationship and work exclusively with the Cypress Health Region as their primary fund-raising group, but we are self-directed.
In fact, we are led by our volunteer board, a group of southwest residents who feel strongly about ensuring the health care you deserve is here when you need it.
If you would like more information about the Foundation, you can find us at 2051 Saskatchewan Drive in Swift Current, just across the street from the Cypress Regional Hospital. We are also online at, on Facebook at and on Twitter follow @drirwinfdn.
If health care is a passion of yours, we would love to hear from you!
There are always opportunities to “Keep Healthcare Strong in southwest Saskatchewan.”
