Swift Current's Sask. Abilities gets some good news—twice!

A long-time Swift Current tradition in support of the Saskatchewan Abilities Council took place at the Frontier Bowling Lanes on April 26 with the 26th annual Ability Bowl. This year’s event had a Disney theme and many teams were dressed in their favourite characters. The 42 teams raised a total of $72,746.79 in support of programs and services for people with varying abilities at the Swift Current branch of Saskatchewan Abilities Council. Sask. Abilities is growing its operation in Swift Current.


Effective June 1, 2014 the Swift Current Branch of the Saskatchewan Abilities Council will be expanding their current recycle services to include a ReUse Warehouse.  The purpose of the ReUse Warehouse is to provide employment and training opportunities to individuals with disabilities and to divert reusable waste from the landfill site.  ReUse Warehouse will open June 16, 2014 and is located at 1110 - 6th Avenue NE, Swift Current.

ReUse Warehouse will acceptitems such as appliances in good condition (electric only), architectural items, office equipment (in good condition), cabinets, countertops, doors, electrical items (plates, plugs, wire, fans, etc.), flooring materials (area rugs, carpet, undamaged ceramic tile, vinyl flooring, wood flooring), hardware (doors, cabinets, etc.), insulation (new only), lighting (florescent and incandescent, lumber (framing/trim/pressure treated, milled lumber, plywood, siding trim), masonry (bricks – whole, intact and in good condition), cinderblock (whole, intact and in good condition), sheet rock (wallboard, drywall), paint/wall coverings (paint must be new, unopened cans and latex only), wall coverings (unopened rolls), plumbing fixtures (bathtubs, commodes, plumbing hardware, pipe (PVC, metal or copper), sinks, roofing materials/gutters (new roofing and gutter materials, rolls of roofing material, shingles, tools (in good working order). 

ReUse will not accept: appliances that do not fully work, furniture – all types, blinds, broken or unframed glass, clothing, drapes, lead based paints, mattresses, open or partially used paint, paint thinner or other hazardous or toxic chemicals, pesticides.
