The Great Plains College SunDogs recently donated equipment (basketballs and volleyballs) to the college’s student association for recreational purposes and in return, the student association has made a cash donation of $150 to the SunDogs Varsity Athletic program.

“This is a perfect example of students helping one another,” says student association president and Practical Nursing student Kaitlyn Torrie. “The student association believes that health and wellness are important parts of having a good student experience—maintaining the equipment for solid recreational activities promotes this.”

The SunDogs Varsity Athletic program utilizes monetary donations to financially support the program in various ways including team travel, team equipment and supplies, team promotions and recruitment.

“The SunDogs are very appreciative of the student association’s support at the games and events. They have provided food services for the fans and athletes as well as a much-needed cheering section,” says Mona Patterson, Athletics and Recreational Coordinator. “It’s a natural fit in terms of supporting one another … and it’s also pretty fun.”

The student association at Great Plains College Swift Current Campus consists of representatives from each of the programs and is largely responsible for planning student-lead activities and events at the college.
