Everyone of us has a body and most of the time we choose to “run it on empty.”

We are taught to give rather than receive and I am ready to change that and make a different choice. I am ready to receive all of me — including my body and take the time to nourish, nurture and receive all that my body is telling me and is capable of.
I have been searching to find a restorative yoga teacher and experience deep training and guidance in this practice for some time. I have been listening to these deep whispers within me to bring this restorative yoga practice to my body, to my clients and to The KIVA Community.
Restorative Yoga is about slowing down and opening the body through passive stretching. During these long holds of gentle yoga poses, your muscles relax deeply. Props are used to support your body instead of your muscles. Restorative Yoga classes are the essence of unwinding and a necessary compliment to more active practices and an excellent antidote to stress. Be prepared for deep relaxation when you attend a restorative yoga class. Be cocooned in blankets, bolsters and yoga props and surrender your body to rest, ease and relaxation.
I first experienced restorative yoga at a Slow Retreat in Bali. My first class was interesting. My mind was racing and I had a hard time to settle into my body and relax. I found myself getting bored and wanted to get up and “do” something. In a few moments the resistance eased and my body softened into this comforting pose. I was supported by bolsters and blankets and I was reminded of how my mom would wrap me in blankets, tuck me in and I would fall asleep in her arms. It felt like I had come home — home to myself — home to my body. It was beautiful. Space and ease opened up in my body and my mind was calm, still and at times empty. “Yummy,” said my body. “I know,” said my mind.
In less than two weeks I will be welcoming Tianne Allan to Swift Current. Tianne is an international restorative yoga teacher, trained by Judith Lasater. Tianne practices out of Vancouver and trains people around the world.
When Tianne and I first spoke on the phone I was excited about the possibilities we could create together. I shared with her my invitation to learn more about restorative yoga and my desire to offer restorative yoga classes for my staff and students at The KIVA Studio. And then the question: will you come to Swift Current to offer a training?
There was no pause. No hesitation. Her answer was quick and definite: yes. Tianne immediately went to her calendar and soon we were scheduling dates and dreaming of possibilities for more than one training. This was easy. This was right. This is happening.
Tianne Allan will be arriving in Swift Current July 19. This will be her first time in Saskatchewan and her only Western Canada training. How did Swift Current get so lucky? Tianne will be offering a special Deep Sleep  Workshop that is open and available to everyone on Wednesday night, July 19.
On July 20-24 Tianne will lead a five-day Restorative Yoga Training. This is a chance to create deep ease, restoration and healing for the body. There are no prerequisites. All are welcome.
I am ready to have a life where my body is nourished, nurtured and invited to live to her fullest even more. I believe restorative yoga is a dynamic process I can add to my toolbox that will create more here — more for my body, mind and life, and more for my clients and the community of Swift Current.
I can’t wait to have five days to learn and to rest, receive and recharge. It is a muscle I am learning to strengthen: receiving I am ready to receive all of me — all of my capacities, all of my body wisdom and body knowing. I am ready to make choices that create more ease in my body, more rest and more potency so I can chose to create and be even more.
Interested in the Deep Sleep Workshop or the Restorative Yoga Training? Spots are still available. Contact me at The KIVA Studio (306-774-6478/ This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. / ) for details/ to register.
You have the ability to create more ease in your body. All you have to do is choose. Restorative Yoga may be the choice your body is looking for to create more health, strength and wellbeing.
“I have had the joy of having Tianne assist me in teaching Restorative yoga. She is knowledgeable, kind and focused on the students’ welfare. I recommend her highly as a teacher of Restorative yoga,” Judith Hanson Lasater, PhD., PT, Relax and Renew.
