The Swift Current Royal Canadian Legion Branch 56 recognized the contribution of five businesses towards the success of the 2011 poppy campaign by presenting them with certificates of appreciation prior to the start of the regular Tuesday dinner at the Legion Hall on Feb. 7.

Country music fans had a unique opportunity to enjoy performances from two of Saskatchewan’s rising stars at a fundraiser for the Swift Current Community Youth Initiative at Sky Centre on Jan. 28. The concert featured Codie Prevost and Katie Love Hess, who impressed the audience with a high-energy, enthusiastic show.

After years of journaling her family’s journey with chronic illness, Swift Current native Clara Penner recently released a book to help other families in the same situation.

To kick off the Lyric Theatre’s 100th Anniversary Celebrations, the venue hosted a CD release party on Jan. 28, featuring performances by the artists included on the album.

Oh, no Leader! Elbow wins In Motion

The votes are in and the winner of the $10,000 in motion Community Pledge Challenge is Elbow. The money is earmarked for a community project that keeps children and youth in their  community more physically active.  Elbow plans to use its winnings for a safe and modern playground in their local park that also includes fitness equipment for use by parents, grandparents and visitors.


Residents of southwest Saskatchewan will have to put off their support of donations to the Salvation Army in Swift Current...temporarily.

Stegner House fundraiser in its 25th year

The Eastend Arts Council is set to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Annual Wallace Stegner House Dinner March 10.
This gala affair is an opportunity to dress up in fancy attire to enjoy dinner and the Arts Council’s famed dessert buffet, while raising money for the ongoing maintenance of the house.

A writer and a cultural development group in Swift Current have been awarded grants from the Saskatchewan Arts Board at the recent grant deadline. Peggy Worrell received a $5,500 Independent Artists grant “to work toward a publishable manuscript of short fiction with the themes of aging, goodness, self-determination, and dying, and to develop public reading skills."
